Better news about my dog, Ginger!

Her heart murmur is a grade one, which is the least serious. Her heart is slightly enlarged but that is likely due to age (she’s actually estimated to be about twelve, not eleven like I thought).

Pending the results of her bloodwork (that should be back Monday), the vet thinks we are clear to have the dental procedure done to rid her gums of the bacterial buildup. They have a different kind of anesthesia that is used for older dogs, and it is less intense. She may need some mild antibiotics depending on the bloodwork results, but no heart medication is necessary at this time.

And, no heartworms, either. Thank goodness. Thank you all for your prayers, thoughts, and kind words. Looks like my “first born” will be around for a while yet.

Our dog had a visible heart murmur (grade 5), and lived to 18.  Just keep ‘em happy, the meds make it manageable.

Yeah! That’s awesome.

Last Saturday my almost 4 year old Aussie had a Grand Mal seizure. That was incredibly scary, I had never seen anything like it. After talking to an emergency vet, we monitored him, and took him in on Monday. Monday evening he had another, less violent seizure, but longer. Blood work has come back negative for a multitude of things, so basically if seizures now only happen about every 6 months, they don’t recommend medication.

It’s such a hard thing to watch, but all you can do is clear a path and make sure they don’t hurt themselves while it happens. Poor pup.
